The new era, the new world of EQUALITY

Black Lives Matter protest - The new era of equality

Black Lives Matter

It is undoubtedly to state that COVID-19 has come and the world was structured with a flood of danger and death one of which was George Floyd's. Nonetheless, awareness is the one thing that has surfaced during the most darkest times of humanity. The unjust death of George Floyd has led to an important stunt against racism and the beginning of the black lives matter movement across the world but this awareness extends to more than one injustice in more than one issue. It extends to the protection of all human rights such as the LGBTQ plus rights. In this episode with the founder of Avila (a greeting card company for mostly the black community), Diana speaks about all of that. Thus in this article, I will be stating the key issues and topics raised in the episode while stating my view on the matter what I've learnt and what changed after seeing this episode.

When you think you are aware of all the issues across the world that's when you should start questioning that and start listening to people that really face them. This is something that I learned during this episode but also this is something that I understand now by my own experiences as well. Diana raises the main issue of racism and how that was something that people were afraid to speak about in the past. Nevertheless, nowadays the movement toward equality has begun and companies have started to raise awareness of that movement. Her own experiences and views really helped me understand all aspects of equality and also relate them to my own. As part of the LGBTQ+ community myself I relate with a lot of experiences she states during this episode. From a young age I was afraid to be myself and speak against people who were homophobic but as the movement of black lives matter arises so does the LGBTQ+ movement and all other human rights movements come to light. People including myself are now speaking their truth and fighting for their human rights and companies that don't get along will simply disappear. We now leave in a new era in a new world. Despite the darkness that many see we fight we love and create the light that comes from within, within us all.

This episode also really changed my perspective on how one person can change the world by one step at a time and I took that step. As a student though, choosing the right company to work in is like choosing the right friend. If they don't accept you for who you are they are not your friend. Thus if a company doesn't accept its employees for who they are, and for their beautiful biodiversity, they are not the right fit for you.

Summing up it is clear that being aware of the issues of the world and then going even a step further into really listening to people who experience these inequalities and issues is an important step in understanding them and in the process of making a change. It is also clear that companies should continue supporting the human rights movements and equality after the crisis ends if they want to be part of the new era the new world of equality. So as an individual, you should now question if you want to be part of this new era and whether you know where or who you want to be. Well, the way to do that is by listening to others' experiences but most importantly listening to your inner self. Then make the change or simply be part of the change; Believe me that's when your journey begins.
